Shirley L. Hornickel

Shirley L. Hornickel, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Lincoln Hills Healthcare Facility in New Albany, IN. She was born August 20, 1928 in Harrison County, IN the daughter of Arthur and Elsie Liebert Hornickel. Shirley taught school for many years beginning in 1952 in Crawfordsville, IN. She then moved to teaching elementary classes at various schools in the New Albany-Floyd County school system for a number of years. She moved to Bedford, IN where she taught elementary and head start classes in the Bedford North Lawrence school system and she retired in 1993. After her teaching career, she enjoyed traveling, quilting and many crafting projects. Shirley's heart was always in Harrison County and home where you could find her almost every weekend. She is survived by two brothers, Glenn Hornickel (Virginia) and Michael Hornickel both of Laconia, IN; two sisters, Arlene Ferber of Georgetown, IN and Gay Wright of Jeffersonville, IN and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church in Laconia, IN. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 13, 2017 and 8:00 AM to 10 AM at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, Indiana. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either the Rehoboth Cemetery Foundation or to the charity of the donor's choice.
