Elizabeth, Indiana Richard Dean 'Pop' Mertz, 77, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, IN. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 3, 1934 the son of Harley Lloyd and Pauline Cohee Mertz. He was owner and operator of 'Pops Place' Tavern in Elizabeth, IN and was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Elizabeth, He is survived by His wife Cleo Lucas Mertz of Elizabeth, IN Two Sons-Richard L Mertz of Shepherdsville, KY Tod D. Mertz of Jeffersonville, IN One Step-son - Paul Conder (Jo) of Elizabeth, IN 2 Daughters- Nina Atherton (Glen) of Shepherdsville, KY Toni Greanias (David) of Louisville, KY Five Sisters- Pat Dilley, Sharon Robertson, Karen Byland (Jim), Barbara Edinger (Ray) all of Indianapolis, IN and Sandy McCammack of Stilesville, IN. Nine Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren Funeral services will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church in Elizabeth on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Father Rob Hankee will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon on Wednesday from 11 AM to 8 PM and after 9 AM on Thursday. There will be a rosary on Wednesday evening at the funeral home at 7 PM. Pallbearers will be Tony Atherton, Fred and Justin Hasch, Austin and Ryan Greanias and Gary Dilley.
