Pauline R. Sarles Obituary (1921

Pauline R. Sarles, 91, formerly of Galena, died Thursday, December 27, 2012. On November 21, 1921 the area newspapers reported the birth of twins Paul and Pauline Ripperdan and the death of their father that same day. Raised in Valley City and a 1940 graduate of New Amsterdam High School, Pauline married John Stanley Sarles 'Sarles' on Valentine's Day 1942. During the War Pauline followed Sarles to California, living in San Leandro in the Bay Area and also in Oxnard, by the Navy Seabee base at Port Hueneme. After the war they returned to Milltown and later moved to New Albany. Pauline was a founding member of New Albany's Eastside Church of the Nazarene, and a retiree from the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant at Charlestown and the Floyd County Schools. She is survived by Mark Vance (Elaine) Sarles of Fallbrook, California and Gary Duane (Angela) Sarles of Dallas, Texas as well as by grandchildren Stephanie, Austin, Hope, and April Sarles. She was preceded in death by her brothers Cecil Windell, Stanley Ripperdan, and Paul Ripperdan and sister Betty Payson. Viewing will be on Sunday, December 30 from 1 PM until 6 PM at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, with the funeral there at 10:00 a.m. on December 31 and interment at Union Chapel cemetery on Highway 66 in Crawford County.
