Carol Bierly Shaffer, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on June 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt whose greatest joy in life was her family. A retiree of BellSouth, where she spent 40 years working hard and caring for those she loved most. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved being a part of their lives. Whether it was attending a sporting event, cheering on the Hoosiers, celebrating a special occasion, or simply spending time together, she treasured every moment with her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Meredith Bierly, and her mother, Elizabeth Evans Bierly. She is survived by her daughters, Carla Johnson (Robert) and Cara Hedden (Larry); her grandchildren, Vincent Johnson (Michelle), Lynne Thomas (Chad), Jennifer Robinson (Demontre), and Jeremy Hedden (Blair); her beloved great-grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Clay Thomas, Cole Thomas, Logan Hedden, Addy Robinson, Carlee Thomas, Laken Hedden, Asher Johnson, and Hayes Robinson; and her bonus great-grandchildren, Lane and Luke Wilson. Sisters Rose Brown (William) and Frederica Dones (Donnie), her God Children, Dr. Richard Brown and Joe Dones. Numerous beloved niece and nephews that she loved dearly, and cousins who were like siblings. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, unwavering love, and the countless memories she created with those she held dear. Her family was the center of her world, and her love and influence will continue to be felt for generations. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that the values she instilled and the love she shared will remain in their hearts forever. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM. June 19, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon, Indiana, with burial to follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Elizabeth, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 8 PM Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, IN and on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 9 AM until 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers she wishes donations be made to St Peter’s Church Cemetery fund, or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
