Bobby Gene "Bob" Pruett Obituary (1946

Mr. Bob Pruett, 64, of Corydon, Indiana formerly of Madison, Indiana, he entered this life on December 31, 1946 in Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late, Lloyd Eugene & Inez O. Gray Pruett. He was raised in Madison and was a 1964 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. he then attended Hanover College from 1964-1965. Bob was inducted into the United States Army on February 23, 1966 in Madison, Indiana. He rose to the rank of Specialist Five during the Vietnam War serving the 493rd Truck Company 16th Group. He was honorably discharged on February 21, 1968 from Fort Benning, Georgia receiving the National Defense Service Medal; the Overseas bar; the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars; the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Bob attended the Liberty United Methodist Church as a youngster and was a member later at Kent United Methodist Church in Kent, Indiana. He received his Bachelor of Science in History from Indiana University where he was on the Dean's List in 1971. Bob was first employed as a social studies teacher at Atherton High School in Louisville, Kentucky, he served as Junior class sponsor, the assistant wrestling coach and scorekeeper at the basketball games. He then worked as a realtor and office manager for Stanley Gray Real Estate in Madison from 1972-1982. Bob was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Dianna Lynn Konkle on December 3, 1979 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This happy union was blessed with one son, Josh. Bob became the owner and operator of the Dairy Queen Stores in Madison from 1979-1991 and enjoyed living in downtown Madison on Main Street. He became vice president of Citizens National Bank in Madison from 1982-1985 and during his tenure the bank grew in 25 million in assets. He had served as a board member with the Indiana Transportation Authority from 1984-1990. Bob was proud to be elected the Indiana State Republican Representative of the 66th District from 1980-1982 and enjoyed serving on the House Ways the budget sub-co mmittee; higher education sub-committee; insurance and corporation committee and chaired the interim select committee to study black grants. He then served as the Vice President of Operations with Paragon Construction Properties in Madison from 1984-1990. He also served at the Regional Vice President of Tobacco Institute from 1987-1996. Bob then served as the Divisional Vice President of Government Affairs at Brown & Williamson from 1996-2005 and as Senior Director of Government Affairs at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company since 2004 and at present with Reynolds American Incorporated. Some of the awards and recognitions Bob was proud of was receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor Robert D. Orr; Freshman 'Outstanding' Legislator Award by the Indiana Broadcasters Association, this award was voted upon by the majority and minority caucuses; 1981 Outstanding Young Men of America; Soldier of the Month for the Company, Battalion and Group in Vietnam. He was also a member of the Capitol Club of Sacramento; lifetime member of the I.U. Alumni Association; Hoosier Hundred Member I.U. Varsity Club; past member of the Board of Realtors and had served as president and secretary of the Jefferson County Board of Realtors; board member of the Jefferson County United Way; the Madison Elks Club; Madison Rotary Club; the Indianapolis Press Club; Skyline Club and the Columbia Club. After moving to Corydon Bob enjoyed attending Pfrimmers Chapel United Methodist Church. Bob enjoyed high school and college basketball, especially IU. He also liked to watch the Indianapolis Colts as well. Bob was a devoted husband, father, brother and family man.. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Eugene Pruett died, May 19, 2007; his mother, Inez O. Gray Pruett died, September 13, 2007; his mother in law, Mary Lou Dickason Konkle died, July 1, 2011; his grandparents, John W. & Mary Myrl Peacock Pruett and Russell & Helen Mae Hall Gray. CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Karen Devaiser and the Rev. Don Pruett at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow at the Liberty Cemetery near Hanover, Indiana. MILITARY HONORS Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion and the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit.
